Vision:
We envision a future where our pantry serves as a bridge to greater stability, health, and a stronger tomorrow; a place where neighbors support one another, and no one faces hunger alone.
What does Feeding Greene Do?
Feeding Greene has been providing supplemental food assistance to area families in need since 1995. Currently, we are serving over 850 families who receive over 63,000 pounds of food each month. Feeding Greene is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer driven organization.
We are open to families every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00am - 12:00pm, and every Wednesday from 4:00pm - 6:00pm.
When clients visit us on Thursdays, they are invited to try a dish from our tasting station that provides weekly samples of meal options made from offerings in the pantry that week.
Home food deliveries are made every Tuesday and Thursday to those with no transportation or physical needs. Individuals in need of emergency food assistance may apply at Feeding Greene, Inc. and are supplied once a month with groceries.
We are thankful to be part of Feeding America's network of food banks and a member of Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville, VA. We serve families through multiple programs including:

We are thankful to be part of Feeding America's network of food banks and a member of Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville, VA. We serve families through multiple programs including:
- Client Choice Program: On Oct 19, 2021 we opened our doors for families to shop for their own food much like in a normal grocery store. We have implemented a stop light system, identifying food as either green, yellow, or red to reflect the nutritional value of food as families make informed choices. This model is designed to educate and encourage healthy eating habits. We also provide food sampling of healthy meals made from in-stock food on Thursdays each week. The Extension Office will be providing recipes and classes aimed at healthy eating habits. The Free Clinic has been asked to offer health screenings and diabetes education to families as they visit.
- Backpack Program: For children at our public schools and Head Start: On September 10, 2021 Feeding Greene began delivering food to children at our local schools through our Backpack Program. Each week, we are delivering 125 bags of easy to prepare food to our schools to ensure that our children’s nutritional needs are provided for over the weekend. All food for this program must be purchased. Monetary donations are encouraged to best support this program.
- Home Delivery Program: For the elderly, disabled, and those without transportation: This program has been a vital part of our pantry since 1995 and COVID took it to a whole new level and gave it new purpose. We currently deliver food twice a month to those who are homebound. We continue to offer emergency deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have partnered with Blue Ridge Health District to see that families in Greene with COVID receive food and cleaning supplies during their time of illness and quarantine.
We have an average of 160 volunteers who donate about 2000 hours collecting, sorting, and delivering food each month as well as other areas of day-to-day operations. The food we provide is donated by individuals, churches, and several community partner businesses. Our Community Partners provide us with perishables and bread & bakery items each week. In addition, we are able to purchase food from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank at greatly reduced prices. Feeding Greene Inc. is supported by a Board of Directors comprised of residents of our community. See our board members www.feedinggreeneinc.org/current-board-members.html Rhonda Oliver is our Director.
